About 13,000 abortions take place each year and more than 38 abortions a day, in Scotland!
Statistics show that abortion rates increased significantly over time, more and more Scottish women choosing to make abortions instead of using contraception or giving birth.
Apparently, the majority of the unplanned pregnancies result in abortions, many women who make this step being even under 16 years of age. However, the situation is not as serious as in Pakistan, where almost 900, 000 abortions are made very year.
Most of the women who have abortions choose National Health Services (NHS) Hospitals.
Abortion is the termination of pregnancy and can occur spontaneous or purposely induced. In order to develop people awareness of the multiple dangers related to abortions, many Scottish campaigns bring daily information about how abortion devastates women, physically and emotionally.
The situation is crucial having the fact that the highest rate of abortion in Scotland is among 16 to 19 years-olds. However, all the doctors can do is offer support and advice on contraception for the future.
Unlike other places, such as the Republic of Ireland where abortion is illegal unless mother’s life is in danger, Scotland is one of the countries where women have the chance to make a fully informed decision and suffer the consequences for the own actions.
